Flight Simulator Sites
The Flight Sim sites I tend to visit most often
Name
Web address
Description
FS Insider
http://www.fsinsider.com/Pages/default.aspx
The official Microsoft Flight Simulator site run by my co-workers at Aces. It's growing and has a lot of great articles about the franchise.
Avsim
http://www.avsim.com/
Probably the largest Flight Sim site with many active forums and a large selection of downloads. I post in the FSX forum here periodically.
Flight Sim World
http://www.flightsimworld.com/
My favorite ste for their screenshot forum. My friend Mango is one of the main guys there and he is known for his amazing images. Although I haven't posted any screenshots, I do post responses occasionally.
Sim-Outhouse
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/
One of my favorite destinations where I occasionally post in the FSX forum. Several members at Sim-Outhouse are air combat fans so they have good coverage on that subject as well.
Flightsim.com
http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds/main/menuchoo.htm
One of the larger sites that has been around for a long time.
SimFlight
http://www.simflight.com/
My friend Francois runs this nice site.
FS Developer
http://www.fsdeveloper.com/
Probably the best site for getting help and collaborating to build Flight Simulator content (aircraft, scenery, missions, etc). I post here occasionally as well when I can help answer a question.
Virtual Air Traffic Simulation Network (VATSIM)
http://www.vatsim.net/
One of the largest on-line FS communities focused on very realistic flight in live controlled airspace. Takes a bit to get setup and requires some study on how real pilots and controllers communicate.
International Virtual Aviation Organization (IVAO)
http://www.ivao.aero/
Another big on-line FS flying group. Similar to VATSIM, but some say it's easier to setup.
FS-MP
http://fs-mp.com/
Site dedicated to flying multi-player in FSX. The group doesn't tolerate griefers and new users are screened before gaining access and are banned if they cause problems. As a result, the dedicated pilots can fly in relative peace. Real pilot feel.
FSX Mission
http://fsxmission.com/live/
Site dedicated to helping people learn how to build missions for FSX and share with other mission builders. Another place where I post sometimes.
Simviation
http://www.simviation.com/
Smaller site with what seems like fewer members. Has a nice selection of aircraft to download.
